Exceptional George II Side Table/Lowboy

Circa 1750
An exceptional George II period mahogany side table of small proprtions and exquisite form. The superbly figured overhanging top above two short and two long drawers, all with the most remarkable fire-gilded handles and a shaped freize decorated with scrolled leafy ornament and raised on cabriole legs carved to the knees and beyond with trailing acanthus and terminating in circular pad feet.
In outstanding 'untouced' and original condition, including handles, escutcheons, locks and even a key.
This exceptionally fine table strongly echoes designs for lowboys made in Philladelphia, USA and popularised by such renouned makers as Henry Clifton (d 1771) and Thomas Carteret, . Whilst this current piece is believed to have been made in England, a connection of some sort seems very probable.
