Pair of papier-mâché Japanned lacquer Side Chairs By Bettridge

An outstanding pair of exhibition standard black Japanned side chairs by John Bettridge of Birmingham, each with metal makers labels under the seat rails. The backs, legs and seat rails profusely decorated with gold leaf, painted highlights and inlaid mother-of-pearl. Caned seats with squab cushions, supported on cabrtiole front legs.
Excellent condition throughout.
